Gravity Block Walls

A gravity block quay wall is a type of quay wall which is constructed in areas where the load bearing strata is strong enough to carry vertical loads. Since the blocks consist of precast elements, strict quality control can be implemented to increase the durability of the quay wall. The basic principle in gravity block wall design is to provide the structure with such a weight that the resultant weight of the wall together with any other other static and/or dynamic forces would not allow rotation or sliding of the wall.
